Give an account of adaptive radiation with an example from the Galapagos Islands.

The process of evolution of species in a given habitat (geographical area) starting from a point and radiating to other habitats is called Adaptive radiation.

Classical example – Darwin’s finches. Originally seed eaters. Evolved into various types of beaks for insect  / fruit eating . All evolved on the same island – Galapagos.
